About us

The work of the two-person operational team is supported by the Board of Trustees and the Advisory Community. Some of our board members also work as advisors in preparing and conducting the granting process involving the applicants.

Süvecz Emese

one of the founders,
executive director of HWF

Emese studied art history, gender studies, and critical studies in Budapest and Malmö. She began to deal with the disadvantaged position of women from the perspective of visual arts, after which she worked in several women’s rights organizations in Hungary. After 2017, she worked as a receptionist, a cleaning lady, and for several years as a marketing assistant at the Hungarian Association of the Automotive Industry. At HWF, she is responsible for international fundraising and relationship management, as well as project planning and knowledge transfer tasks. 

Keveházi Kata

one of the founders,
Financial Director of HWF

Kata is an economist who studied in Budapest, Moscow, and Paris. She has been working in the women’s movement for many years, organizing, supporting, and representing it both nationally and at the European level. She has been a member of leading bodies of both national and European women’s lobbies and currently assists in their work as an expert in feminist economics. In HWF, her responsibilities include overseeing the organization’s financial management and supporting the grant cycle, as well as organizing the work of the Participatory Grantmaking Community.

Tóth Herta

Chair of the Board of Trustees of HWF

HHerta is a gender researcher, a grant-making expert, and a women’s rights activist. Currently, she works as theGrant and Sustainability Lead  at EuroCentralAsian Lesbian* Community. Previously, she worked at Open Society Foundations, where she supported women’s rights organizations in the European region and globally. As a representative of Hungarian women’s rights civil oganizations, she assisted in promoting gender equality in the EU Structural Funds Monitoring Committee. At the beginning of her career, she was a co-founder and volunteer at NANE Women’s Rights Association, which operated the first domestic violence helpline supporting survivors in Hungary.

Bari Judit

Judit studied ethology and then organizational and community development. She has been working for over twenty years for the human rights of women and Roma communities, promoting social and environmental justice. She is associated with the establishment of the Green Legal Platform. As a writer and dramaturge, she has worked on numerous theater projects. Her first non-participatory drama, „Angels of Disadvantaged Status” (the story of a young prostitute mother’s escape), was awarded the György Ferenczi Memorial Prize (Child Protection), and theater critics recognized it as one of the most remarkable plays of the year during its premiere. She hosts the „CÉKLA – Roma Public and Cultural Program” on Tilos Radio and writes for newspapers and magazines, mainly on political and public life topics.

Csordás Anett

With qualifications in Hungarian and drama teaching and educational leadership, Anett is an experienced and highly acclaimed movement and community organizer, as well as an institution leader. Currently serving as the executive director of the CP House Foundation and as the training director at the Civil College Foundation, Anett has founded and led two pioneering schools in Csepel and Józsefváros. The latter was inspired by the basic needs of her son with disabilities, becoming a driving force behind the recognition of home care. In 2014, she and her partners achieved accessibility and health insurance coverage for a special surgical intervention for people with disabilities in Hungary. As a volunteer, she assisted in the nearly two-year formation process of the MNA, contributing to the planning working group.

Dósa Mariann

Mariann is a gender researcher and a social policy expert. Currently working as a policy consultant in London. She is a co-founder of The School of Public Life, which supports disadvantaged community members in acquiring civic knowledge and developing the skills necessary for movement building. For a decade, she was a member of The City Is for All group led by homeless people, and for five years, she participated in the work of Hungary’s first independent, left-wing news portal, Mérce, funded entirely by reader contributions. Mariann is the recipient of the Rector’s Excellence Award from the University of Oxford.

Krasznahorkai Emma

Emma began her activism with an act of civil disobedience, then pursued a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in community and civil studies, while organizing dozens of civil protests. For nearly a decade, her professional focus was on public-civil and feminist activism. She spent a year abroad working with refugees, and upon her return, she worked for the OSCE and the IOM.In her academic pursuits, she collaborated with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and won the Visegrád Fellowship of the OSA Archives. She has also illustrated several publications („A Mother Stands Up and Speaks; Women’s Issues 2018”). Currently, she works with refugees and migrants at a civil organization as an individual social worker and integration expert, as well as a research assistant in Horizon2020 research.

Rédai Dorottya

Dorottya is a gender researcher, an educator, and a women’s rights activist, receiving numerous Hungarian and international accolades for her work. For creating the book „Meseország mindenkié” (Fairyland is for Everyone), TIME Magazine named her one of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2021. The fairy tale book innovatively retells classic tales, showcasing social gender, class, and ethnic diversity. Dorottya plays an important role in addressing social inequalities in public education and the social status of LGBTQ+ individuals in both domestic and international research scenes. Additionally, she actively participates in informal educational activities. Currently, she serves as the executive president of the Labrisz Lesbian Association.

Várady Nóra

Nóra is the executive director of „We are Open,” founded by Prezi, espell, and Google in 2013. The nonprofit organization aims to demonstrate that open and inclusive workplaces can be more successful and innovative, while also ensuring the happiness of their employees. So far, over 1000 domestic companies and organizations have joined their cause. Previously, she worked as the Head of Partnership Relations at the Innovation Lab of the Central European University (CEU). Before that, she served as a diplomat within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including positions as a consul at the Hungarian Embassy in Denmark, as well as press and cultural attaché. With expertise in international relations and nationalism, she holds degrees from Corvinus University of Budapest, CEU, Georgetown University, Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III, as well as the Universities of Belgrade and Copenhagen.

Kolozs Andrea (Nancy)

member of the Advisory Community

Nancy brings experience in communication, fundraising, and project management. She holds a degree in social sciences with a focus on migration, integration, NGO operation and development, and community organizing. Throughout her professional career, she has been involved in non-formal education, fundraising, and communication. Currently, she works as a fundraiser at Amnesty International Hungary, supporting the fundraising efforts of civil society organizations as an expert. Nancy also volunteers to support initiatives contributing to social and environmental equality and justice. She participated in the nearly two-year formation process of the Hungarian Women’s Fund, assisting the fundraising working group with her volunteer work.

Pákozdi Éva

member of the Advisory Community

Éva is a development engineer, retired CEO of a bank, economic advisor, and grassroots organizer. She is the president of MENŐK Hungarian European Women’s Forum Association and co-founder of the Expert ELEGY for Society Foundation. Since 2010, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Hungarian Gymnastics Federation and later served as the chair of the supervisory board. As a curator of the Hungarian Civil Union, she aims to foster the emergence of self-organizing, autonomous communities and their networking, contributing to the development of a strong civil society in Hungary and the Carpathian Basin. As an activist for MENŐK, she was one of the initiators of the „Count Together!” movement, a nationwide volunteer vote-counting initiative aimed at building a broad mass base. After a long career in finance and engineering, Éva found her way to civil activism. She is an active member of our Advisory Community, formed to successfully engage applicants.
